Surgical Procedures Done by our Doctors in a hospital or facility setting:
Hysteroscopy (operative and diagnostic) - Hysteroscopy is used to treat or diagnose problems of the uterus. A hysteroscope is a thin, lighted telescope-like device. It is inserted through your vagina and into your uterus. The hysteroscope transmits images of your uterus onto a screen. Other instruments are used along with the hysteroscope for treatment. Click HERE for more information.
Dilation & Curettage (D&C) - D&C is a surgical procedure in which the cervix is opened (dilated) and a thin instrument is inserted into the uterus. This instrument is also used to remove tissue from inside of the uterus (curettage). Click HERE for more information.
LEEP Procedure - If you have an abnormal Pap test result, your doctor may suggest that you have a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) as part of the evaluation or for treatment. LEEP is one way to remove abnormal cells from the cervix by using a thin wire loop that acts like a scalpel. Click HERE for more information.
Laparoscopy (diagnostic & operative) - Laparoscopy is a way of doing surgery without making a large incision (cut). A thin, lighted tube - known as the laparoscope - is inserted into the abdomen through a small incision. The laparoscope allows your doctor to see the pelvic organs. If a problem needs to be treated, other instruments are used. Click HERE for more information.
Myomectomy - Myomectomy is the removal of fibroids (non-cancerous tumors) from the wall of the uterus. Myomectomy is the preferred treatment for symptomatic fibroids in women who want to keep their uterus. Larger fibroids must be removed with an abdominal incision, but small fibroids can be taken out by laparoscopy or hysteroscopy. Click HERE for more information.
Hysterectomy - Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. There are different ways it can be performed: 1) abdominal hysterectomy, 2) vaginal hysterectomy, 3) laparoscopic hysterectomy. There are different types of hysterectomy: Total hysterectomy where the entire uterus and cervix is removed, Supracervical hysterectomy where the uterus is removed but the cervix is left and hysterectomy with removal of fallopian tubes and ovaries. Click HERE for more information.
Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy - Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy (LSH) is a type of hysterectomy that involves removing the uterus only. Because it is done laparoscopically - it is usually performed as an outpatient procedure and requires only a 2 week recovery period. Click HERE for mroe information.
Total Abdominal Hysterectomy - Total abdominal hysterectomy is where the uterus and cervix are removed through an incision in the lower part of the abdomen. Click HERE for more information.
Vaginal Hysterectomy - During a vaginal hysterectomy, the surgeon detaches the uterus from the ovaries, fallopian tubes and upper vagina, as well as from the blood vessels and connective tissue that support it. The uterus is then removed through the vagina. Click HERE for more information.
da Vinci Robotic Hysterectomy - The da Vinci System enables your doctor to perform a minimally invasive hysterectomy even for complex conditions — with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control. The da Vinci is a state-of-the-art surgical platform with 3D, high-definition vision and miniaturized, wristed surgical instruments designed to help doctors take surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. Click HERE for more information.
Laparotomy - A laparotomy is a large incision made into the abdomen. Exploratory laparotomy is used to visualize and examine the structures inside of the abdominal cavity. Laparotomy may be performed to determine the cause of a patient's symptoms or to establish the extent of a disease.
Hysteroscopy with Morcellation of Fibroids - Your doctor may discuss this procedure with you as a treatment for heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding due to polyps or fibroids. A hysteroscope is inserted into the uterus and then the uterus is filled with saline. A device called a morcellator is then inserted into the uterus. This device has a small opening with a cutting edge on it to gently shave away the polyp or fibroid. Click HERE for more information.
