Please follow this diet for three (3) days prior to your test.
1. Select at least three(3) choices from the following food groups at EACH meal:
· Grains and Starchy Vegetables Group:
Bread/toast; cold cereal; cooked cereal; bagel, tortillas, pretzels
Corn; dried beans; lima beans; peas; rice; potatoes, sweet potatoes…
· Fruit Group:
Orange; banana; apple; canned fruit; dried fruit; fruit juice…
· Milk Product Group:
Milk; yogurt; natural or processed cheese…
*PLEASE NOTE: You may add one (1) serving of meat to each meal and have one candy bar or dessert each day.
EXAMPLE: (You may pick and choose freely; this is to get you started.)
Breakfast: Bowl of oatmeal, 2 pieces of toast, sausage links, banana, and glass of milk.
Lunch: Grilled ham and cheese sandwich, yogurt, pretzels, and a glass of apple juice.
Dinner: Spaghetti and meatball with parmesan cheese, whole grain garlic bread and a glass of milk.
Dessert: One (1) serving of Rocky Road ice cream.
2. After 10 p.m. the night before the test, DO NOT eat or drink anything except water. (No coffee or tea.)
3. On the day of your test, your blood will be drawn starting at 9:00 a.m. and you will be given a sugary glucose solution to drink. Your blood will be drawn every 60 minutes for the following three hours. You must stay inactive in the office during the test- NO eating, drinking, or smoking during this time.
